About the Role

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of the TCBHGS and the Lenora Rolla Heritage Center Museum. This individual will oversee daily operations, guide long-term planning, strengthen community relationships, and ensure the financial and organizational health of the institution. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who values cultural heritage, community engagement, and collaborative stewardship.

Requirements

Leadership & Strategic Vision

· Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans that advance the mission and

sustainability of the Society and Museum.

· Work closely with the Board of Directors to set organizational priorities and evaluate

progress.

· Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability.

Fundraising & Financial Management

· Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including grants, donor cultivation,

sponsorships, and community partnerships.

· Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and responsible stewardship of resources.

· Strengthen revenue streams through programs, memberships, and special initiatives.

Operations & Administration

· Manage day-to-day operations of the Museum and Society, including staff, volunteers,

and contractors.

· Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and nonprofit best practices.

· Oversee facility management, collections care, and administrative systems.

Programs, Exhibitions & Community Engagement

· Support the creation of exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives that

reflect the Museum’s mission.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, schools, universities,

churches, and civic organizations.

· Serve as a public ambassador for the Museum, representing the organization at events,

meetings, and media engagements.

Board Relations

· Provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

· Collaborate with the Board on governance, policy development, and strategic initiatives.

· Support Board recruitment, orientation, and engagement.

Qualifications/Education

· Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Museum Studies,

History, African American Studies, Public Administration, or related field preferred.

· Demonstrated leadership experience in a nonprofit, museum, cultural institution, or

community-based organization.

· Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations.

· Strong organizational, financial management, and communication skills.

· Knowledge of African American history, particularly in Texas or the South, is highly

valued.

· Ability to build trust, inspire teams, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

About the Organization

The Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society (TCBHGS), founded in 1974 by
community visionary Lenora Rolla, is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sharing the rich
history and cultural contributions of African Americans in Tarrant County. Through the Lenora
Rolla Heritage Center Museum, the Society maintains archives, exhibitions, educational
programs, and community partnerships that ensure these stories are honored and accessible for
generations to come.

As the organization enters a new chapter of growth and sustainability, the Executive Director
will play a central role in shaping its future.
