Jimmy Walker

Jimmy Walker is the President of the Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society, and have been a member of this organization since 2014.

Jimmy received his Bachelors of Science degree from East Central University in Ada Oklahoma, and majored in Psychology and Physical Education. Jimmy also received two Master’s degrees in Psychology and Administration, from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah Oklahoma.

Jimmy started his teaching and coaching career at Byng High School in Byng Oklahoma, and was the first African American to live in the Byng community.

Jimmy taught social studies, and was the head boys basketball coach at Moton High School in Taft Oklahoma, and Muskogee High School in Muskogee Oklahoma. His teams competed in the state championship tournament 7 out of the 11 years he coached, and won the State Championship in 1982. Jimmy moved to Arlington Texas in 1993, where he served as Assistant Principal at Carter Junior High, and Martin High School.

Jimmy was selected as Principal at Bailey Junior High in 2000, where he served in that capacity for 9 years. During his tenure as Principal, his school was recognized as one of the most successful Middle/Junior High Schools in the state of Texas in 2001, 2003, and 2005. Jimmy was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 2009, where he served in that capacity for 4 years before retiring.

Jimmy was the first African American to serve in the following capacities, Oklahoma Basketball Executive Board of Directors, Martin High School Assistant Principal, Bailey Junior High School Principal, and the first African American male Assistant Superintendent.

Jimmy has received many awards for his outstanding coaching, educational achievements, and community involvement.

Jimmy is married to Valerie Cooper Walker, and has a daughter named LaCeisha Reddick, and a stepson named Donovan Curry.
